Alien Knife Fight are back with a new video for an older song “Clocks,” which sees its premiere today on mxdwn. “Clocks” was actually written back in 1999 as a Bourbon Princess song, Monique Ortiz’s previous project. The video, like many other productions from the band, was made in a completely do-it-yourself fashion on a cell phone. Despite the low-budget techniques used in making the video, the visuals are a stunning accompaniment to this slow, downtempo electronic track.
Ortiz had this to say about the decision to release a new video via Alien Knife Fight for this song: “I always wanted to do a video for this song, and others in my back catalog, but never had the necessary technology or means until now. This is a song I’ve continued to perform over the years, in a variety of projects, and we’ll be resurrecting this and a few other Bourbon Princess songs for Alien Knife Fight’s next live set. Better late than never.”
The track features Ortiz on vocals, chord organ and baritone guitar, while Jonah Sacks (backing vocals and cello) and Owen Burkett (drum machine) fill out the lineup. The song was engineered and mixed by Will Wrynn back in 1999 — it eventually saw release on the debut album by Bourbon Princess, Stopline. The video was shot by Ortiz and Michael Howard (who is her current co-member in Alien Knife Fight) at Big Bottom Farm in Texas, with direction from the two members.
