Stone Temple Pilots Share First Song with New Singer Jeff Gutt “Meadow” and Announce New Album for Spring 2018 Release

After the surprise announcement of new lead Singer Jeff Gut, and surprise show at the famous Los Angeles venue the Troubadour, Stone Temple Pilots have released the first new song from this lineup of the band, “Meadow” as reported by Consequence of Sound. Additionally, the group as announced that a new record with Gutt would be coming out in the spring via Atlantic/Rhino Records.

After a lengthy search for a lead singer, STP settled on the former X-Factor contestant Gutt, who unsurprisingly channels the late Scott Weiland in his vocal delivery. While there is undoubtedly going to be some apprehension with a newcomer like Gutt fronting such a famous band, his vocals are within the same range as Weiland’s so fans should be able to put their concerns at ease. Sonically, “Meadow” contains plenty of chugging hard rock with a gritty, modern production style.

The song rides a propulsive guitar/bass riff from the DeLeo brothers that recalls their classic 90’s output. From the sound of things, Gutt will have no trouble holding his own singing classic STP material along with the new songs as he posses enough technical skill and grit to his vocals.

STP has been busy this year, filling out their lineup with Gutt, recording a new album and reissuing their legendary Core album, complete with a shiny new remaster and plenty of bonus tracks.

STP first burst onto the grunge scene in the early 90’s with songs such as “Interstate Love Song” and “Sex Type Thing” getting heavy rotation on MTV and turning them into superstars. Eventually, the band broke apart with Weiland joining forces with Duff McKagan and Slash to form Velvet Revolver. After getting back together in 2008, Weiland was fired from the group and replaced with Chester Bennington of Linkin Park. While many had hoped that the DeLeo brothers and Weiland would eventually reconcile and get the classic lineup back together, those dreams were ended when Weiland was found dead of a drug overdose in late 2015.
