It has been around thirteen years since A Perfect Circle’s (APC) 2004 eMOTIVe was released, but the wait for new music is finally over. Today, November 16th, APC have finally teased us with a new haunting video for their new single “The Doomed”. However, there is something extremely different in comparisons to A Perfect Circle’s past promotional endeavors.
In the past, when it came time for any of Maynard James Keenan’s projects to promote their new work, the band would appear normally in interviews, but would seldom appear in their videos. But, the past is the past and it would appear that Maynard and the rest of A Perfect Circle have ditched their old efforts so as to give us a new dark taste of APC. See them Perform it live here.
Directed by Jeremy Danger and Travis Shinn, the video for “The Doomed” opens and Maynard is already staring directly at you with his big, dark eyes. It almost feels like one witnesses an anomaly when Maynard’s face is full front and center. As if he is emoting himself so that we can see what he feels. As soon as we see his face it disappears and cuts to the other members of APC. Shifting from a single band member to the next, we soon get to see A Perfect Circle collectively as they give us a manifestation of “The Doomed” through their stirring stares.
As the last two weeks of their North American tour wraps up, Maynard James Keenan has released a statement pertaining to the newly released video and their upcoming album: “Fourteen years have passed since we released eMOTIVe. A new release is long overdue. In light of this current difficult and polarized social, spiritual and political climate, we artist types need to open our big mouths and share the light a little louder.”
Billy Howerdel, guitarist of APC also released a statement in connection with the album: “Years of life experience has brought our music to this moment. We know where we came from. Deeply connected path we’re on.” This past June, Howerdel also scored the music for the film D-Love. Check our coverage on his music here.
For their album, and possibly more, A Perfect Circle have signed an enormous worldwide record deal with BMG for their follow up to 2004’s eMOTIVe with the same producer, Dave Sardy. If you need to see more than the video, have no fear! A Perfect Circle have also released an announcement for a world tour.
