Spaceland And FYF Present Propagandhi 11/19 At The Regent Theater

Spaceland and FYF are bringing Propagandhi to the Regent Theater Nov. 19 and Angelenos aren’t going to want to miss it. Supported by RVIVR and Bad Cop/Bad Cop, the all ages event starts at 7:00 PM and will cost a concert-goer $22. It’s the perfect way to spend a Sunday. Tickets are going fast so make sure to grab yours before the big day this weekend.

Propagandhi describes themselves on Facebook as “four doofuses” and “total all-out maniacalness.” Their website describes them as a “secular progressive thrash band” when you search them on Google. Propaghandi is a Canadian punk rock band formed in 1986 in Portage la Prairie, Manitoba and later located to Winnipeg. The band’s early sound was heavily influenced by skate-punk, later garnering more influences from hardcore and heavy metal.

The band is known for being vocal on issues involving veganism, feminism, LGBTQ rights, sexism and racism, as well as being anti-capitalist and anti-fascist. The band has released seven studio albums, three extended plays and a plethora of other music in the form of splits, live albums, demo tapes and a compilation album.

Their first album, How To Clean Everything, was released in 1993 via Fat Wreck Chords. It was received very well by critics, with AllMusic giving it a four out of five stars. Three years later they released Less Talk More Rock (1996), another prolific album well received by critics. Today’s Empires, Tomorrow’s Ashes (2001) came after five-year gap and AllMusic rated it another four out of five stars with users liking it even more than critics.

Potemkin City Limits (2005) was another highly acclaimed album that featured a piece of art on the album cover called Children’s Games from anarchist artist Eric Drooker. Supporting Caste (2009) came four years later. And after three years, the band released Failed States (2012), which broke onto US charts. Their latest album, Victory Lap, was released this year to critical acclaim, breaking onto the US, Australian and Canadian music charts.

Paste Magazine said in Victory Lap review that “Propagandhi stirs heady dustups of full-throttle metal better than most bands who’d call themselves metal, and do so with an ear toward flattening the pomposity inherent in oppressive politics in Canada, the U.S. and anyplace else where self-serving egomaniacal assholes are pervasive.”

They go on to say that “Propagandhi know they can’t save the world all by themselves. With Victory Lap, their collection of heady, pulverizing opuses hopes to inspire you to join in the battle.”

With over a dozen upcoming concert dates, Propagandhi is only coming to California for two of them, with one in Santa Ana Nov. 18. Their next tour date is Nov. 15 at Club Red in Mesa, Arizona. Their tour ends at the Los Angeles date, and then the band gets some rest before they pick up the next leg of their touring schedule.

The band is planning for a United Kingdom tour in 2018, with dates set in Glasgow, Manchester and Bristol. After the UK, the band will be heading to other parts of Europe including Germany, Netherlands, Switzerland, Italy, France and Austria.
