Before Jack White found fame with drummer and sibling Meg White as the White Stripes, he was apart of the garage rock outfit The Hentchmen. He played bass on just one album–Hentchforth–for the band, and now for the first time in almost 20 years White’s Third Man Records label is reissuing the LP on vinyl, as mentioned by Consequence of Sound.
The 1998 reissued album will be en extended edition that includes a version of the single “Some Other Guy” with White on guitar on top of some additional bonus tracks. Third Man also points out that the “Some Other Guy” single was recorded and released at the same time as the White Stripes’ first single, “Let’s Shake Hands.” The album was originally released under the name The Hentchmen and Jack White as an inclination to “British Invasion records that would have an old bluesman or rocker as a guest.”
Hentch-forth is just one of seven reissued albums from Third Man Records. All of them were originally released on Detroit’s Italy Records, (Detroit being White’s hometown) which just celebrated its 20th anniversary. White has said that the label set the framework for “Third Man’s DIY ethos.” The album is available on Third Man’s digital store now.
