The El Paso rock band are back and have returned with a new song “Graveyard Luck” as mentioned by the Brooklyn Vegan. Sparta is one of the bands that formed from the break up of At the Drive-In in 2001. Jim Ward, the lead singer of Sparta ended up leaving At The Drive-In last year after they reunited to record a new album. A combination of excessive hype, relentless touring, artistic and musical differences, and Rodriguez-Lopez and Bixler-Zavala’s drug habits played a part in the demise of the band. Guitarist Rodriguez commented on the hiatus of the band, “After a non-stop six-year cycle of record/tour/record/tour, we are going on an indefinite hiatus. We need time to rest up and re-evaluate, just to be human beings again and to decide when we feel like playing music again.”
Sparta is currently led by members Jim Ward, joined by longtime member Matt Miller, guitarist Gabriel Gonzalez, who was temporarily a member in the early 2000’s, returning to take the place of Keeley Davis, who is Jim Ward’s current replacement in At the Drive-In. “Graveyard Luck” is Sparta’s first new song since 2012 when they came out with “Chemical Feel,” which led to talk about a possible new album that never happened.
