Soul legend Mavis Stables has been getting ready to release her highly anticipated new album If All I Was Was Black. The album is set to arrive in store later this month and as fans await the arrival, they have been presented with teases from the Staples who shared several tracks off the album including a title track, “Little Bit,” and “Build a Bridge.”
Today, she is premiering a brand new song titled “Ain’t No Doubt About It.” The track features the vocal styling of Jeff Tweedy and is her third collaboration with the Wilco frontman. You Are Not Alone, their first track together won a Grammy and their second, One True Vine was a Grammy nominee. Though this is the first time that Tweedy has composed an entire album of original songs for Mavis to sing.
Mavis on her collaboration with Tweedy; “Our comfort together, the sound and feel of family, fighting the same fight. We want the same things for our country and for the world. Tweedy is a genius – he’s passionate about his art and his poetry, he’s got no filter and will tell you just what he thinks. He’s just upfront and real. Whatever’s on his mind, he’ll drop it, and I appreciate that about him.”
“Ain’ No Doubt About It” is a soulful song about friendship. The two artists trade lines back and forth about the importance and need for friends. As they reach the inspirational chorus, they join together as they sing, “Ain’t no doubt about it, I’ll always be your friend. Ain’t no doubt about it, I can count on you till the end.” It is hard listening to the song and not smile which is a sign of a true classic.
