After receiving an injury from a falling stage prop, the highly controversial self-proclaimed “Superstar Antichrist” Marilyn Manson, had to cancel his October Chicago performance along with many other dates. He now has officially rescheduled his Chicago date to February 6th at the Riviera Theatre.
Due to the themes and symbolism within his music, attention and controversy has always surrounded Marilyn Manson. Often scapegoated for most teenage violence and issues by political figures, there are few that have been as influential as him. However, Manson is only the face of the musical act. Ever since the band’s conception in 1989 in South Florida, many band members have come and gone through the years. The current members that will be seen on tour this year are of course the only remaining original member Manson (lead vocals), Tyler Bates (guitarist), Gil Sharone (drummer), Juan Alderete (bass), and Paul Wiley (guitarist) who occasionally appears during live shows.
Mainstream media often labels the music of the band Marilyn Manson as shock rock. Shock rock can be defined as a term for all musical acts that combine rock and metal music with dramatic live shows, creating that shock factor. While their music, performances, and visuals do have a certain shock factor, Manson contests the use of the label shock rock and prefers to categorize the band as rock and roll.
In support of their newest album, Manson and his band have been raging on stages ever since they embarked on their 2017 “Heaven Upside Down Tour”, bringing along special guest Alice Glass. Look for them to intensely perform cuts from their newest album, as well as many other Manson classics.
For Manson’s comeback performance, the doors will open at 6:30 PM, and the show will start at 8 PM. If you have purchased general admission tickets, plan to arrive before then to ensure that you can be as close to the enthralling singer as possible. Tickets that were purchased for the original date, October 10th, will be honored and will not need to be exchanged.
