Brand New Postpone Three Shows Following Allegations Against Jesse Lacey

Punk-Pop band, Brand New, has just announced the postponement of three upcoming shows on their tour. Their upcoming shows in Dublin (November 16th), London (November 18th) and Glasgow (November 19th) were a part of their tour for their most recent album Science Fiction, which was released in August. According to their Facebook post, tickets will be refunded at the point of purchase.

The shows have been postponed following the release of accusations of alleged abuse against frontman Jesse Lacey. On Friday, former guitar technician for the band, Brian K. Diaz threw shade at the frontman for his unaddressed inappropriate behavior saying, ““So while we are on the topic of outing famous and semi-famous creeps, anyone want to speak up about Jesse Lacey from Brand New?” Nicole Elizabeth Garey reposed to the post with personal stories of Lacey’s alleged abuse against her. The alleged abuse began when Gary was a minor, and continued into her young adult life.

Lacey responded to the accusations on Facebook, by addressing his struggle with sex addiction and sobriety in a vague, yet lengthy, seven paragraph long post. Following the release of the news, British indie pop band, Martha, decided to drop their tour dates with the band.

Now, touring guitarist Kevin Devine has decided to drop his support of the tour as well. According to Alternative Press, the guitarist has dropped both his supportive dates, and solo dates in the UK. He goes on to address the allegations in his own Facebook post: “I believe that it is critically important to really listen to & hear people who speak out about abuse of power & sexual misconduct.” He goes on to offer support for Nicole, and other victims.

The New York based group, consisting of Jesse Lacey (lead vocals), Vincent Accardi (guitar), Garrett Tierney (bass) and Brian Lane (drums), began in 2000. This past July, the band announced that they would be disbanding at the end of 2018. With these allegations circling, the band’s timeline may be cut even shorter.
