Oberhofer Releases Album of Piano Songs Titled Piano 12:34 to 1:34 AM Night of 11/5/17, Morning of 11/6/17:: Becoming A Cloud and Dying Off, Homes, Childhood, Etc.

Brad Oberhofer, known simply as Oberhofer in the music world, must be a Gemini, because he certainly has two different musical personalities. Like Cruella de Vil dual-shaded hair, the face Oberhofer shows Spotify is certainly different from the one he shows Bandcamp. His Spotify contains his albums which are full of peppy and playful indie pop songs. They are catchy, albeit offbeat, songs that sound like they were dug out of the 80s. His Bandcamp is a completely different story: it has several classical tunes that are sweet and sparse-nothing like his other work.

His latest Bandcamp album is titled, Piano 12:34 to 1:34 AM Night of 11/5/17, Morning of 11/6/17:: Becoming A Cloud and Dying Off, Homes, Childhood, etc. The complex title makes way for a simple 8 piece album with beautiful piano melodies that sing a vibrant story. While the title is certainly a mouthful, the songs themselves are a breath of fresh air. Oberhofer harkens back to his early days of lo-fi music production with these extremely authentic songs-you can hear the creak of the piano bench and the rustle of the sheet music as Oberhofer plays. This authentic display seems to have come effortlessly to the artist, as the title indicates he recorded the entire thing within one hour one restless morning/sleepless night, depending on how you look at it.

Oberhofer once again proves he is a master curator. He can take a theme, and run, nay, sprint with it. Oberhofer, a Washington native and NYU graduate, released his debut album, Time Capsules II, in 2012 with the help of famous producer Steve Lillywhite (Rolling Stones, U2, Talking Heads). His follow up, Chronovision, continued his musical tendency to combine an 80s sensibility with contemporary beats. His latest album, Oberhofer’s Ultimate Wedding Mixtape, served as the soundtrack for the film Table 19. It is a curated collection of 80s covers featuring songs like “We Got The Beat, ” (The Go-Go’s) and “I Melt With You,” (Modern English). With Piano 12:34 to 1:34…, Oberhofer proves that he could even score (literally and figuratively) a film in the future.
