Get ready for this concert. Native New Yorkers Princess Nokia and Suzi Analogue are coming to the El Rey Theatre in Los Angeles Nov. 24 for what is sure to be an electrifying night. The perfect way to spend a Friday night, the event begins at 9 pm, with doors opening at 8 pm. Tickets are starting from $22.50, and will cost a concert-goer $25 at the door.
Princess Nokia has been on tour since this summer, promoting the release of her highly anticipated debut, titled 1992 Deluxe, through Rough Trade Records. The Atlantic said the album was “a great debut, teeming with the same kaleidoscopic possibility as the city she hails from.”
This year Suzi Analogue released a short horror film with Crushed Leather titled End Of Forever, available via bandcamp for viewing. She also released Zonez. V3 featuring Jax, DJ Earl, Nappy Nappa and more back in May. She also released limited 7″ vinyl as well, dubbed NNXT.
With this current leg of the tour spanning another 12 dates, Angelenos will only get one chance to catch the two performers. In fact, LA is the only California date, so expect it to get pretty crowded, if not sell out. That means you should get your ticket fast. Her next date is overseas in Bruxelles, Belgium and her last scheduled date is Jan. 19, 2018 at the Caboose in Minneapolis, Minnesota.
Originating from the Bronx, New York, Princess Nokia’s real name is Destiny Frasqueri. She is an American rapper of Afro-Puerto Rican descent. Noisey wrote an essay on her in January stating her opinion for why Princess Nokia matters now more than ever. “Destiny knows who Destiny is. And it’s time the rest of us caught up,” wrote Amani Bin Shikhan.
Princess Nokia identifies as a bruja and a tomboy, a classic New York Boricua shorty and a feminist, according to Noisey. She is also well known for being the host of her podcast, Smart Girl Radio Club, as well as forming her feminist collective Smart Girl Club. Princess Nokia has released three albums to date: Metallic Butterfly, Honeysuckle, and 1992 Deluxe.
She has also released an EP, 1992, as well as a collaboration with New York’s Ratking in 2014 and 2015 for the tracks “Puerto Rican Judo” and “Sleep Tech”. In 2016, she modeled in a Calvin Klein ad that premiered during Men’s Fashion Week and provided a runway soundtrack for designer Alexander Wang, according to Vogue.
