Indie rockers Pinegrove have released a new song “Intrepid” as reported by Spin. The track is their first new recording since 2016’s seminal Cardinal album, their first for the stalwart indie label Run for Cover Records. “Intrepid” continues Pinegrove’s exploration of alt-country flourishes with emo and indie rock influences.
The song begins with a downbeat shuffle as vocalist Evan Stevens-Hall delicately croons over a set of dreamy guitar chords. Eventually, the track picks up into a steady mid-tempo groove as Stevens-Hall stretches out his vocal technique over a series of chugging guitar chords and snappy drum fills. Lyrically, the song is concerned with heartbreak and loss but does so in a more mature direction than many of the other similar sounding bands out there. As a whole “Intrepid” is an exciting blend of indie rock and emo stylings that manages to stand out amongst the glut of bands now in the genre.
Since forming in 2010, Pinegrove has steadily built up a following as the entire underground indie/emo scene has been exploding in popularity, with music fans looking for more introspective music that contains heartfelt lyrics and solid musicianship. Pinegrove have just recently finished up a fall tour and have made mention of the fact that they have completed recording a new record, which will be released sometime in the spring of 2018.
