Feist Releases Cover of “Hey, That’s No Way To Say Goodbye” by Leonard Cohen

Feist has shared with us gentle cover of the late Leonard Cohen‘s “Hey, That’s No Way To Say Goodbye.” The song was originally released by Leonard Cohen in 1967 off of his album Songs of Leonard Cohen. Feist had previously covered the song at a tribute to the Canadian legend at the Juno Awards. Her rendition mimics that of Judy Collin’s, who also covered the track the same year it was originally released. However, the instrumentals and orchestration is dialed back and more centered on lone acoustic guitar and backing vocals, unlike Collin and Cohen’s versions. Feist’s cover comes two days before she is scheduled to stage at Tower of Song: A Memorial Tribute to Leonard Cohen at Montreal’s Bell Center on November 6th.

Other artists that are set to perform at the tribute include Lana Del Rey, Philip Glass, Elvis Costello, Sting, k.d. lang and Cohen’s son Adam. “My father left me with a list of instructions before he passed: ‘Put me in a pine box next to my mother and father. Have a small memorial for close friends and family in Los Angeles…and if you want a public event, do it in Montreal,’ Adam Cohen previously said in a statement of the tribute concert. “I see this concert as a fulfillment of my duties to my father that we gather in Montreal to ring the bells that still can ring.” Listen to Feist’s “Hey, That’s No Way To Say Goodbye” below.
