According to NME, Damon Albarn revealed that he is working on a follow-up album to The Good, The Bad and the Queen album with Tony Visconti. Gorillaz frontman Albarn, The Clash’s Paul Simonon, The Verve’s Simon Tong, and Afrobeat drummer Tony Allen came out with the self-titled debut in 2007. In an interview with Zane Lowe unveiling Gorillaz’ new song “Garage Palace,” Albarn explained “I’ve been working with Tony Visconti. He’s responsible for some of my favourite records, so that’s been really enlightening and inspirational.” Tony Visconti worked with David Bowie from his second album in 1969 to his very last record Blackstar in 2016.
Albarn said that the record was fully-written back in 2014, but recently claimed that the album was inspired by Brexit, giving them “a wonderful starting point.” The musician also talked about the instrumentals being finished but that he is still working on the vocals. “We’ve got pretty much all the songs and recorded all the backing tracks but I’m just emoting over it at the moment. I can hear what I’m saying kind of, a bit, but it’s still a bit unintelligible.”
Gorillaz new song “Garage Palace” features British rapper Little Simz, and is exclusively off of the deluxe version of Humanz.
