It’s Tuesday and music fans can always be assured that new music or news relating to their favorite musician will be announced on everyone’s favorite day of the week. Today on Halloween, fans got some amazing news from their favorite Icelandic singer and songwriter. Bjork has unveiled not only a vivid and beautifully sinister album cover for her new album, Utopia, but has revealed the release date of when fans can have the album in the palm of their fans.
Jesse Kanda made the album cover with the assistance from Bjork, James Merry, and Hungry. Bjork went on social media in the last 24 hours to post the good news along with a glimpse of the brand new cover art. Using Facebook, the singer posted a statement where she expressed “thank you for telepathically getting me,” which she wrote towards her collaborators. She added, “over the moon and jupiter gratitudes to magical arca for making the music of this album with me : what a profound and nourishing trip this has been !!!” You read the entire post below which can be viewed on the artist Facebook page.
All but one of the songs on Utopia were produced by Venezualan electronic producer Arca who also shared a statement about the new record reflecting on the album’s creation, “the licking raindrops out of the salty air in the tropics & listening for birds, swimming in green rivers, the fires crackling through snow … the dark grey storm and the luminous rainbow that flooded the air after.” Arca co-wrote 5 of the 14 tracks on the album – also receiving a co-writing credit is Sarah Hopkins, who helped pen one of the songs. The one song on the album not produced by Arca was helmed by Rabit.
One of the features of the album is a twelve piece Icelandic female flute orchestra which the singer formed, arranged for and conducted. Also appearing on the album is Hamrahlíðarkórinn, a choir conducted by Þorgerður Ingólfsdóttir – Bjork also arranged for that choir.
