On January 19th the Swedish folk duo First Aid Kit will release their highly anticipated new album Ruins via Columbia Records. The group released the first single from the album “It’s A Shame” earlier this month, which was accompanied by a visually stunning music video. Additionally, First Aid Kit have released another single from Ruins today, the country-shuffle of “Postcard.” The group has developed a large fanbase in North America in recent years for their eclectic musical palate that combines country elements into their folk sound.
Recorded in Portland Oregon with acclaimed producer Tucker Martine, known for his work with My Morning Jacket and Laura Veirs, Ruins also features a host of guest collaborations with the likes of REM’s Peter Buck, Wilco’s Glenn Kotche, and Midlake’s McKenzie Smith. Ruins is the duo’s second record for Columbia, following up 2014’s acclaimed Stay Gold. First Aid Kit recently finished a run of dates in North America, performing at the prestigious Austin City Limits and Hardly Strictly Bluegrass festivals. The duo will return to North America in January to kick off a large-scale tour beginning with a show at the Fox Theater in Oakland.
Sisters Klara and Johanna Soderberg first formed First Aid Kit ten years ago, rising to fame on YouTube for a version of the Fleet Foxes song “Tiger Mountain Peasant Song” which catapulted them to a successful career not only in their native Sweden but across the world as well.
