Australian indie electronic group Cut/Copy have released a new music video for the song “Standing in the Middle of the Field.” The video revolves around the daily life of a couple as the camera continuously pulls back different layers of their life by zooming out, with each scene forming a circular pattern before dissolving into the next shot. Eventually, the speed picks up, and the camera zooms out to reveal different landscapes before continuing to zoom out, with each previous shot fitting into a golden circle.
Visually, the video is eye-catching, with no one shot staying on the screen for very long, this gives it a sense of non-stop movement. Musically, “Standing in the Middle of the Field” is based around a fun and catchy series of drum machine loops which give the song a bouncy vibe over which vocalist Dan Whitford delivers a set of high and dreamy vocals along with plenty of shimmering synth lines.
The group emerged from a long hiatus earlier this year with the surprise release of the song “Airborne” which hinted at the possibility of brand-new album. That became a reality when the band released details for a new album Haiku from Zero along with a couple of other songs ahead of the album’s release date. The record finally saw its release on September 22nd and has garnered plenty of critical acclaim from the music world. You can check out mxdwn’s review here.
The band is currently gearing up for a run of tour dates in North America next month, where fans can expect plenty of new material from Haiku from Zero mixed in with many of the classic disco-influenced electronic that has won the group such a devoted following.
