A little while back, Evanescence recently announced their new project/album Synthesis, reworking of some of the band’s biggest tracks not only remixed with a full orchestra, but with some electronic remixing as well.  Today, the band released a dramatic new video for the latest single, “Imperfection.”

What has been a tragically relevant topic this year, the track is an emotional dive into the issues of suicide and depression, something that has plagued artists this year. “For me, this is the most important song on the album,” singer Amy Lee said to NME of the new track. “I struggled with the lyrics for a long time because there was a lifetime of work to live up to and I wasn’t sure what to say or how to be good enough. When it finally started pouring out of me, it was undeniable. I had no choice.”

The track starts with a melancholy, but beautiful, piano instrumental before switching gears into an electronic, almost part trap part trip-hop electronic version of the song. While some fans might be worried about the electronic crossover, Evanescence’s ear for catchy choruses carries over well on the newfound genre.

While Lee doesn’t mention anyone in particular, the topic of suicide and depression has been prevalent in music this year, with the tragic suicide of both Chris Cornell and Chester Bennington. “It’s for all the people we’ve lost, all the people who we could lose, to suicide and depression. I’m signing from the perspective of the person left behind, the person in the waiting room,” Lee says. “Nobody is perfect. We are all imperfect and it’s precisely those imperfections that make us who we are, and we have to embrace them because there’s so much beauty in those differences.”
