American folk band The Wood Brothers released their latest album, Live at the Barn, in the beginning of the year. Since 2004, The Wood Brothers have continue to bless the folk music world with their unique music style. The band origins include New York City and Atlanta with the current line up of Oliver Wood, Chris Wood, and Jano Rix. The Wood Brothers have toured all over the US and appeared at various music festivals throughout their career. The band’s musical influence has ranged from jazz to pop-rock. Later in the year, The Wood Brothers are going on a limited city tour.
Before their formation of The Wood Brothers, the brothers both tried their hand at their own single music careers. Even though both Chris and Oliver Wood studied jazz, both had their own style of it. Oliver founded King Johnson, an R&B style group. The band lived their lives on the road, touring with Tinsley Ellis. The band toured for over 12 years, releasing over 5 albums in that span. Chris Wood formed Medeski Martin & Wood, an abstract music group. The brothers finally got together to work on their music together.
After releasing their debut demo, The Wood Brothers signed a contract with Blue Note Records. In 2008, the brothers released their follow up to their debut album, Loaded. The Wood Brothers signed with Southern Ground Records in 2011 to release their next four albums. The Muse, The Wood Brothers’ fourth album peaked at no. 10 on US Folk Music chart and no. 3 on Billboard Heatseekers chart. Live at the Barn, the band’s tenth album was released in the beginning of the year under Honey Jar Records.
