As reported by Blabbermouth, Evanescence performed one of their first concerts on the Synthesis tour at the Greek Theater in Los Angeles over the weekend, backed by an orchestra. The veteran metal band announced the tour earlier this year, in which their old material is reworked for an orchestra along with some electronic instrumentation.
The resulting album, also titled Synthesis will be released on November 10th through BMG. All of the orchestral arrangements on the record was handled by Beck’s father, David Campbell, with the intention of broadening the band’s sound and going away from the heavy guitar direction that first brought them into the mainstream music scene in the early 2000’s. The album will also feature two new songs, with the epic “Imperfection” just recently released to the public.
At this early stage in the tour, it would appear that the new setup is working quite well, as the orchestration manages to elevate each classic Evanescence song to cinematic epics complete with plenty of dynamic changes and the always powerful vocal stylings of singer Amy Lee.
With a combination of heavy guitars and soaring vocals, Evanescence first rose to fame on the back of their breakout debut album, 2003’s Fallen. Despite numerous lineup changes and hiatuses, the band has continued to stay active, with this latest Synthesis project being the culmination of many years of work for Lee, who had always envisioned reworking Evanescence songs with an orchestral backing.
