New Jersey DIY punk trio, Screaming Females, have just video single to mark the upcoming release of their seventh studio album, All At Once. The album will be released February 23rd. In the meantime fans can check out their single, “Black Moon,” or their new video for “Glass House.”
“Glass House,” is a compelling rock song with a caffeinated and constant bass line that supports the punctuated and pounding drum beats and guitar riffs. The monotone vocals and supportive riffs and beats suddenly coalesce to form a shattering sonic and physical climax (i.e. glass breaking in the video). The video, which was directed by Kate Sweeney, complements the sudden build in the song. It is slow moving at first, but also builds to a sweeping finish with both shaky and spinning camera work.
The rest of the album will follow in February. Producer, Matt Bayles (Pearl Jam, Mastodon, Soundgarden), who also produced their last album Rose Mountain, helped the veteran group create larger set pieces that would provide both context and contrast with their smaller songs. Emphasis was taken off of perfecting the production and instead placed on experimentation and individuality. Front-woman, Mariss Paternoster, argued that the band’s 12 years of experience together has helped them both hone their craft and given them the space to try something new as well. The songs have both simplicity and space. They oscillate between in your face punk aesthetics, and understated alternative moments. According to Stereogum, former Fugazi drummer, Bredan candy, will be featured on one of the songs. Fans can check out Paternoster (vocals, guitar) and her bandmates Michael Abate (bass) and Jarrett Dougherty (drums) on tour starting today!
