Calexico Announce New Album The Thread That Keeps Us for January 2018 Release

The last time we heard from indie rock group Calexico, they had release their ninth studio album Edge of the Sun in the summer of 2015. The happy sad critically acclaimed album went on to be well received by the public. Since then the Tuscan, Arizona natives have remained silent until the time was right to reappear on the scene and make noise. Well it seems that the time has come, as Calexico recently shared their new song “End of the World With You” which will be featured on their upcoming album next The Thread That Keeps Us.

“End of the World With You” is a joyfully grim love song, as listeners get the sense that they’re walking a thin line between the bright feeling of hope and dark cloud of fear. Lines like “Love in the age of the extremes, there’s nothing better than I’d rather do/Then to scatter all the myths and walk to the start of the of the world with you” show that times in times of madness it’s best to have someone by the side to help you discover the truth in a world full of deceit. Maybe that’s why “End of the World With You” is a great introduction to Calexico’s new album The Thread That Keeps Us because like the song, the album captures the anxieties and unease of living in confused times.

When describing the making of The Thread That Keeps Us, Calexico co-founder Joey Burns talked about how the current state of the planet inspired the group to experiment and become a bit more rambunctious than their past projects stating, “There’s a little more chaos and noise in the mix than what we’ve done in the past. Whenever we’re writing and we come up with something that feels too familiar, someone will end up saying, ‘That feels good, but let’s keep going and see what else we can uncover.’ It’s been really important to the arc of this band’s evolution for us to always keep on trying new things.”
