But really, can Thundercat do wrong? The silky smooth bass phenom on top of consistently releasing stellar music, has worked with some of the biggest names in entertainment, including Kendrick Lamar and Flying Lotus. Now, he can add Michael McDonald and freaking Kenny Loggins to that list.
Thundercat recently released the video for his track “Show You the Way,” from his recent album Drunk. The video is equal parts sweet and silly in true Thundercat fashion, showing the tale of an armless samurai, the same one featured in the video for 2015’s “Them Changes.” The video sees our armless hero being sent off to wellness resort, where he tries to find peace and happiness. After remembering his family (and being soothed by Kenny Loggins and Michael McDonald), our hero finds peace and content in his life.
It’s everything you’d want and expect from Thundercat. There’s an inherent silliness and lighterheartedness in everything he does, but there’s also something incredibly soothing and peaceful about his music. The new video allowed Thundercat and directors Katarzyna Sawicka and Carlos Lopez Estrada to revisit their past work and build off of it. “We got the track from Thundercat and quickly realized that we had a unique opportunity to continue the story that we had started with ‘Them Changes.’ We ended that video on a fairly grim note but ‘Show You The Way’ offered a bright and contrasting soundtrack for a sequel of redemption.”
