Everyone needs a little bit of R&B and pop from time to time. Soulful pop artist Gavin Turek has managed to combine both into a fine wine. Turek is set to perform at the Roxy Theater Nov. 16 and you won’t want to miss this electrifying event. Disco is taking over the Roxy for an entire night. The opener is the band Iconique, a electronic dance music trio who is sure to heat up the stage. At $15 dollars a ticket, you couldn’t really go wrong for a Thursday night event. The all ages event will open the doors at 8, with performers coming on at 9 pm.
Describing herself as ‘soulful genuine pop’ on Facebook, Turek is singer, songwriter, dancer and actress hailing from Los Angeles, California. She was originally aspiring to become a dancer, according to her biography page on her website.
A versatile individual, Turek slowly grew her large underground following through hard work ethic. She has been heavily involved in music all of her life, whether it’s singing or dance. Her work caught the attention of producer/DJ TOKiMONSTA, who recruited Turek for a track off her album Creature Dreams in 2011. Soon after Turek went on tour with Mayor Hawthorne, according to her bio page.
Drawing influences from Prince, Lauryn Hill, Diana Ross, Michael Jackson and others, Gavin’s soulful, colorful music and mesmerizing live shows spread with the release of her EP “You’re Invited” produced by TOKiMONSTA. After performing at Outside Lands in 2016, Turek played to a sold-out, month long residency in her hometown of Los Angeles.
Turek recently released her newest EP Good Look for You earlier this year via her own imprint label Madame Gold Records. The release was followed with sold out New York and LA concerts and strong support from the likes of Stereogum, Nylon, Billboard, Okayplayer and Paste Magazine, according to her Spotify bio.
Complex also named “Good Look for You” #29 of 50 of the best albums of 2017 (so far). They said, “it’s a shame that Studio 54 (or some 2017 incarnation of) doesn’t exist anymore because Gavin Turek belongs there, front and center.”
Turek is ending a very busy year with the Good Look for You tour, traveling across the nation in support of the EP and her latest single “Birdie Bees.”
