Losing legends in the music world has since become the norm in these past few years as hearts of music fans keep getting ravaged by the continued loop of deaths in the industry. As 2017 comes to a close, we are given a chance to remember one such loss.
Soul of a Woman, the final studio album from soul legend Sharon Jones is about to be released to the world giving fans one last gift of the late artist’s music. Though her presence will never be witness on stage since her death at the age of 60 from cancer nearly a year ago, her soul and music still lives on. Fans ready themselves as they near the date that her final creation is shared.
Daptone Records, Jones record label announced today the news that the album will be released later this year. Jones was working on the 11-track collection with her longtime band, the Dap-Kings when she was being treated for pancreatic cancer. The record is said to be a “a lush, orchestral masterpiece. A true testament to the life and career of Daptone’s fearless leader and one of the world’s greatest performers.” The album was recorded in sessions at the label’s own Daptone’s House of Soul studio in Brooklyn during Jones cancer treatments.

Fans can pre-order the final album both physically and digitally today and will be able to purchase it officially when it is released on November 17th.
With the release coming soon, a music video for the opening track is being shared early. The video features clips from some of Jones’s final performances showcasing happier times with backstage antics. It is the perfect way to remember and hold on to the music icon that is Sharon Jones.
