The continuing story of former Lostprophets frontman Ian Watkins has taken another disgusting turn as The Sun has reported that a young woman who had been “groomed” by Watkins has lost custody of her young daughter once social services became alerted to his association with the convicted sex offender. In this context, the term “grooming” refers to an older man such as Watkins using his influence to warp the mind of a younger person such as the woman in question.
The unnamed woman initially met Watkins when she was 16 years old, and they have apparently kept in touch ever since. Watkins is sitting in prison serving a 35-year sentence for sex crimes including the attempted rape of a baby, having been convicted of the sick crimes after a lengthy trial in 2013. The woman wrote letters to Watkins starting in July of 2016 who responded with letters of his own claiming that he loved her and that she should wear an engagement ring. She continued to visit Watkins, even after police seized custody of her laptop and mobile phone in December of 2016. She returned to visit Watkins in March of this year, with an engagement ring on her finger.
Recently it came to light that the UK authorities had failed to act on a tip about Watkins’ true nature that had been relayed to authorities back in 2009 that showed his intent to abuse children sexually.
Since Watkins’ incarceration and subsequent breakup of Lostprophets, the remaining members have regrouped with singer Geoff Rickly in the band No Devotion in 2014.
