Che Aimee Dorval announced that she is working on a new album called Between The Walls & The Window. While it is going to be her second full studio album, it’s actually her third release. Canadian Beats premiered the first single from the new album, “Buried.” The album is out on December 8th.
The theme of repression is showcased in her first new single from the album. Other songs have themes of regret like in “I Should’ve Worried,” and surrender like in “Art of Dying.” Her music’s signature style is filled with elements of folk, country, soul and industrial rock. It was all recorded in Dorval’s hometown, Vancouver. Her style has changed a lot since her last EP Volume 1. She is now creating more alternative rock music with some inspiration from folk and soul sprinkled throughout.
The tracks are filled with her struggles and experiences as a woman, shining a light on her perspective of how it feels to fight for gender equality in today’s society.
“The first single ‘Buried’ was born out of frustration at having to fight the same battles I thought we’d grown past,” says Dorval. “The same battles I’ve witnessed my mother going up against my whole life. Even with all the progress we’ve made there’s still a lot of work to be done.”
For this new studio album, she worked with studio veteran Shawn F. Cole, who works well with emotion driven music with pop/rock influences. A-list artists like Neko Case, Paul Rigby, Darren Parris, and Daniel Ruiz will be feaatured on Between the Walls & the Windows. All of those artists come together to harmonize and contrast with Dorval’s sensitive and captivating guitar chords.

Dorval’s career kicked off after a competition called “David Foster’s British Columbia Star Search” in 2007. She won that competition which led to an appearance at Fosters annual charity gala and a chance to write and record in Los Angeles with some seasoned producers like Greg Wells, who worked with Katy Perry, and Kara DioGuardi, who worked with Pink and Kelly Clarkson. After that adventure, she returned to her hometown and released her first solo-project Underachiever in 2008. Then later on she partnered with Devin Townsend in an alternative-country album called Casualties of Cool in 2012. A few songs on that album reached mxdwn’s Song of the Year in 2016 and it was declared our 2016 Album of the Year. She quickly started to get motivation, after that successful album, and wanted to work on a solo project. She released an EP called Volume One in 2015.
Dorval also has a handful of shows coming up over the next couple of months. That includes an album release show at The Fox on December 14th.
