Avenged Sevenfold is surprising fans with some new music, some new covers, and a revamped studio album. It’s a part of their new deluxe version of their critically acclaimed album, The Stage. It’s been 12 months in the making, but the deluxe version of The Stage is coming on December 15th. This is following their surprise release of the album, which made them the first rock band to drop an unannounced digital and physical studio album.
Months later the band announced that they were working on transforming The Stage into a more deluxe, evolving project. Over the next several months, they’ve added, and revamped some songs on The Stage. The new edition to their revamped album will feature 7 additional studio songs and 4 unreleased live tracks that were recorded during a recent show. One more bonus song on their deluxe album is a stunning cover of Pink Floyd’s classic song, “Wish You Were Here”
Lead singer M. Shadows says,
“This is the song that started us down the rabbit hole with our recent cover recordings. I’ve always loved this song and though I felt it would be impossible to capture the somberness of the original, we approached it with another purpose. There’s a poignancy to the song that seems appropriate with everything going on in the world today. We put a bit of a modern twist on it to reintroduce it at a time when it might help capture what some of us are feeling.”
In addition to the 11-track album, the band added a re-imagining of Mr. Bungle’s “Retrovertigo,” an original track called “Dose,” cover song of Del Shannon’s 1961 hit, “Runaway,” the band’s version of The Beach Boys 1966 hit, “God Only Knows” and most recently, their rendition of The Rolling Stones’ “As Tears Go By.”
The digital and physical deluxe versions of The Stage can be pre-ordered already. Tickets for their 2018 North American Tour also go on sale today (October 6). The tour will be North America’s introduction to the immersive Stage experience that drew in fantastic reviews after headlining in Europe and the UK.
