As reported by Stereogum, Broadcast bassist James Cargill released a new demo of the song “Tunnel View” today on what would have been vocalist Trish Keenan’s 49th birthday. Broadcast became one of the most acclaimed and beloved synth pop over the course of their 15-year career before Keenan tragically passed away from complications stemming from pneumonia in early 2011. “Tunnel View” is an acoustic demo that really highlights the angelic and ethereal tones of Keenan’s voice and it will certainly please those fans of the band who are longing for any unreleased material to see the light of day. Musically speaking the song invokes sounds of 60’s folk and psychedelia, particularly in Keenan’s vocal delivery and the reverb applied to her vocals.
It is still unclear how this demo fits into the band’s chronology though by its sound one can surmise that it may have come from a series of 4-track demos that Cargill alluded to when he announced he was going to put together an album of unreleased tracks a few years back. Cargill has kept himself busy in recent years, forming a new projected entitled Children of Alice with a self-titled EP being released earlier this year.
