According to NME, Damon Albarn of The Gorillaz, has revealed ambitious plans to release another album soon. The band just released their newest album, Humanz, on April 28th of this year. Since the release, they have been busy touring their album, and popping up at festivals like Outside Lands. The group seems hungry to get more involved in the music business since their seven year hiatus following their 2010 album Plastic Beach. Albarn asserts that they will not be waiting another seven years to release new music-fans can expect new music very soon! Albarn also told Q Magazine, that fans can expect a quick turn out for a tour as well: “”I really like the idea of making new music and playing it live almost simultaneously. It will be a more complete record than ‘The Fall’, but hopefully have that spontaneity.”
Although Albarn has given us fair warning, we can expect that the album may drop at any time, much like their fourth studio album The Fall did back in 2010. Fans were only given five days warning then. The album fared well, and became famous for being proud solely on an iPad while the group was on the road for the previous album’s tour. It is quite possible that if inspiration is striking now while the group is still touring, a similar feat will be pulled off. They do have a gap between their US and UK tour that may be used for recording as well.
Albarn has hinted at other groundbreaking changes for the new album and tour. Albarn disclosed that, “My dream of being able to see holograms of people on stage is close now. that was the idea the beginning. We’ve been patient and we don’t have that much long left.” The Gorillaz have always been one of the most groundbreaking bands since they created a virtual band consisting of the singer/guitarist 2-D, the bassist and brains behind the group Murdoc, the drummer and rapper Russel and powerhouse guitarist Noodle. Like Sia and Daft Punk, identity is played with by creating cartoon characters that represent the music. If they are able to develop advanced hologram technology for a tour, it seems as though they will be able to put on one of the most radical shows since Tupac made an appearance at Coachella. Overall, fans should expect the unexpected from this band.
