Today, the Arctic Monkeys officially announced that they are working on a new album for 2018. It’s been known for months that something is in the works, but there was no official announcement until now. Bassist Nick O’Malley casually dropped the info in an interview with motorcycle magazine For The Ride. Don’t get too excited, though, apparently they’ve only started recording the album last month. According to O’Malley, the album should be coming sometime in 2018. “If it isn’t [out by then], we’ve got problems,” says the bassist.
The band has been on hiatus since the success of their 2014 album, AM. In that time, many of the members have been involved in their own projects. In particular, Alex Turner made some noise with his side-project, The Last Shadow Puppets. There is no word on how the sound will differ on their sixth tape, but it’d better be something special if it is to live up to the band’s successful career thus far. Their debut album is the fastest-selling debut album by a band in British chart history, and AM saw them charting multiple songs onto US charts.
