Nicole Hummel, better known by her stage name Zola Jesus just released her most recent album on September 8th.  Zola Jesus was living in Seattle before making a change instrumental to her album and moving back to her hometown of Merill, Wisconsin.  There she began to haphazardly write her album, largely inspired by dark events in her life.  Zola Jesus has been on tour for her album Okovi, but it hasn’t been what the artist had hoped it would be thus far.  Jesus has been battling a “serious sinus infection” which has affected her last few performances.  At her show in Santa Fe she was forced to cancel her regular performance and instead staged a DJ set due to her respiratory infection.

Later on in the tour Zola Jesus’s vocal’s had improved ever so slightly, listening to Maria Callas as she tweeted before her show in Dallas.

Gradually, as the tour progressed so did her voice and Zola Jesus continued to update fans on the status of her vocals as her infection began to lessen.

In LA for her most recent show last week, she noted that she was sick and it wasn’t until after the third song that she addressed the crowd: “I’m currently battling a serious sinus infection.” She also ended the set by saying “I’m sorry, but that’s all I can give tonight.”
