Spaceland Presents: Metronomy @ The Regent 11/16

Two packed shows in one night are coming up on a Thursday at the Regent. Metronomy is coming to town Nov. 16 and fans were so excited that they had to add a second show. Since the second one is already sold out, this one is sure to sell out too. And it’ll probably sell out pretty fast. The band has been solely supporting their last album Summer 08, just released last year.

Completely put together and recorded by vocalist Joseph Mount, the goal of the album was to create a mature, eclectic pop record in the vein of classic works by OutKast, David Bowie and Daft Punk, according to a press release about the tour. The band’s starting off at Miami’s HoC Fest Nov. 11 and then makes quick stops at Brooklyn Steel in NYC and The Independent in San Francisco before playing their shows at in downtown Los Angeles.

Headed by Mount, Metronomy began back in the 90s in England. Formed in 1999, Metronomy is best known as an electronic-pop group that experiments in new wave, funk and nu-disco. On top of the multiple studio albums produced, Metronomy is also well-known for their remixes of popular songs. Whatever Mount does, he does under the guise of his band.

Mount began the project while still living in his parent’s house in Devon. After moving around and studying in college, Metronomy released their debut album, Pip Paine (Pay the £5000 You Owe) preceded by the first single “You Could Easily Have Me” in 2006. Still a single act at this time, Metronomy garnered little attention as a band. After some time, Mount recruited members in order to help him with live acts.

After gaining some live show experience, the band released a second album, titled Nights Out (2008). The album broke onto the UK Billboard charts. Three years later the band released The English Riviera, which also broke onto mainstream chars in the UK and France, as well as going Silver in the UK. In 2014 Love Letters was released, which peaked at number 7 on the UK Billboard 200. Their latest album Summer 08 was listed as an album to listen to in a 2016 Pitchfork article.
