The English Beat is a new wave band from Birmingham, England. Since 1978, The Beat has continued to produce new material incorporating different sounds into their music. Many members have led the band over the years, each spanning with their own albums. The Beat is set to release their latest album, Here We Go Love, later this year. The Beat has toured with the likes of R.E.M, The Specials, The Police, The Pretenders, and David Bowie.
The Beat released their first single, “Tears of a Clown” a cover of Smokey Robinson and the Miracles’ hit, back in 1978. The band released their debut album, I Just Can’t Stop It, in 1980. Some of The English Beat’s hits made their way into the Top 40 of the UK Singles Chart. The English Beat was short lived as the band broke up in 1983. In 2006, a UK version of The Beat recorded new music for an upcoming album but it was never released.
The English Beat performed at the London International Ska Festival in 2011. In 2012, The English Beat released a box set containing their first three albums.
