According to Stereogum, T.Rex will return to the limelight with a tribute album featuring several vogue artists and bands. Producer Hal Willner disclosed that he is working on the album according to a recent New York Times profile. T.Rex formed in 1967, an English glam rock band known for performing in exaggeratedly flamboyant clothes and makeup. The band was fronted by guitarist, and singer songwriter Marc Bolan, who composed hit songs like “Jeepster,” “20th Century Boy,” and “Bang a Gong (Get It On).” Their most recent album, Da Savage was released in 2016.
The artists that are contributing are Kesha, Soft Cell’s Marc Almond, who sang on a chamber music-style version of “Teenage Dream” that was organized by J.G. Thirwell, and U2. The band (U2) was “in the middle of recording a track for a friend who’s putting a T.Rex tribute record together,” according to a recent interview from The Edge. Trombone Shorty posted a picture with Bono soon after. In mid-August Willner had finished up work on the tribute, further details about the album have not yet been revealed.
