Sia’s new song “Rainbow” sounds as majestic and pop-like as you think it would. On Friday, (Sept. 15) Sia released this uplifting piece for the movie My Little Pony. The song has less of the sporadic vocals as her other hits, but still a glowing melody throughout. It begins with a euphoric pattern of synths and piano chords as the lyrics thrum along to progress into an enthralling beat. “Rainbow” is a captivating open field of symmetry and predictability, unlike many of her other singles. It almost has a tinge of sadness as she sings, “I can see a rainbow in your tears as the sun comes out,” but that feels more inspirational than melancholy, and it is safe to say this song is somewhat of a revival.
The Australian pop star sings the song from the perspective of her character Songbird Serenade in the movie. She strays from her usual strident and powerful air to produce a more elegant and magical tune, one that fits like a puzzle for a movie like My Little Pony. Although Sia does not have a new album on the rise yet she is picking up traction with a catchy, buoyant release like this.
