Third Man Records, who has revealed plans to play vinyl in space, has recently announced the new reissue of Chess Records’ Muddy Waters Singles, along with the partnership with Universal Music Group.
According to the press release, the record is doing this this in order to highlight the depth and importance of the Chess Records catalog. Jack White, the owner of Third Man Records, had a long time history with classic blues. The record label has previously reissued music from Sun Records and Tamla Records.
The label has stated “With recordings this iconic, the Third Man Records pressings are not the first time these songs have been given new life, but we are the only label to reissue them as 7” singles, a label priority we are proud of.” Through the record’s partnership, singles that are currently released from the 7″ vinyl would be “Manish Boy” b/w “Young Fashioned Ways,” “She’s All Right” b/w “Sad, Sad Day” and “Rollin’ Stone” b/w “Walking Blues.” The artist also has plans to release Waters’ 1968 album Electric Mud later this year.
