Need a last minute plan for the weekend? Artist Lights, who has a new album coming out and has released several issues of a new comic series she drew and wrote, will be at Meltdown Comics in Hollywood on Sept. 20 for a special event. If you come, you’ll actually be able to purchase the new album two days early. Lights is set to be singing copies of the comic, as well as perform a few songs. Starting at 5 pm, album and comic book bundles will be sold at Meltdown Comics. This purchase will allow entry to a special meet and greet after the Lights performance, according to the flyer for the event. However, there’s a limited amount of space available.
Lights is a Canadian musician, singer, and songwriter. She is now also an author of her post-apocalypse world comic book, Skin & Earth, which happens to also be the name of her fourth album. Her concept album has been widely anticipated, with Billboard saying that this album truly sets Lights apart from others who have tried to do this before her. She has released three other studio albums and EPs; The Listening (2009), Siberia (2011), and Little Machines (2014).
The latest, Skin & Earth, is the one she will be promoting at Meltdown Comics. Beginning her career as a songwriter, she first made waves with her work on Instant Star, a television series. In 2008, she released a self-titled EP that led her to subsequently release The Listening, which is critically acclaimed and certified platinum. Siberia was also critically acclaimed, reaching the top of the Canadian charts and certified gold. Little Machines debuted at number five on the Canadian charts. All of her albums have broken onto the US and Canadian charts.
Skin & Earth is a story of a girl looking for hope in a hopeless world, according to Lights official website. The post-apocalyptic comic book is set in a world ruled by technology and capitalism. The comic ties directly into the album, which is coming out Sept. 22.
