Noname @ Underground Arts 10/13

Just as unique as her stage name, Noname is one of a kind when it comes to music. Born Fatimah Nyeema Warner, Noname is an American R&B singer and poet. Noname has made a name for herself in her native hometown of Chicago, performing at various poetry slams around town. Noname gained acclaim following her appearance on fellow Chicago rapper Chance The Rapper’s mixtape Acid Rap. Noname released her debut mixtape Telefone back 2016. Noname has built her career on being an independent artist.

Noname grew up on the inspirations of Buddy Guy and Howlin Wolf which lead her to poetry. Noname began competing around Chicago which ultimately lead her to bond with fellow local artists like Vic Mensa and Chance The Rapper. Noname placed third place at Chicago’s Louder than a Bomb competition. Noname eventually moved to alternative rap mixed with R&B. In 2013, Chance The Rapper featured Noname on his hit track, “Lost” off his Acid Rap mixtape. Noname went on to make appearances on other albums like Mick Jenkins’ mixtape The Waters and Kirk Knight’s album Late Knight Special.

Noname has performed at various music festivals around the country. Noname officially released her debut mixtape, Telefone on July 31, 2016. Her lead single, “Yesterday” was featured on Spotify’s Viral 50 chart. Noname continued to gain a following with her mixtape. In November 2016, Noname announced a tour in support of the album.
