Brooklyn is coming to Los Angeles for the night and it’ll only cost $10 to attend. Flatbush natives Issa Gold and AKTHESAVIOR, better known as the Underachievers, will be at the NOVO DTLA Nov. 17. Goldenvoice is bringing the duo out in support of their third album Renaissance, which came out earlier this year. The all ages show won’t be one to forget, especially with such a cheap price tag. That’s a good deal for a night of fun in Los Angeles.
The Underachievers formed in 2011 and were signed to Flying Lotus’ label Brainfeeder the following year, prompting the release of their debut mixtape Indigoism (2013). Lord of Flatbush followed soon after. Both mixtapes tackled the themes like society, religion, psychedelics, culture and spiritualism. Indigoism received highly positive reviews from critics, with Pitchfork saying “the Underachievers’ Issa Dash and AK treat mind-altering substances like sacraments, like battering rams at the doors of perception. Their debut mixtape, Indigoism, is druggy, but aesthetically so; beneath the surface lies work of art-damaged mysticism and pyrotechnic wordplay” and Complex naming it one of the top 50 albums of 2013. Their debut LP Cellar Door: Terminus Ut Exordium was released the following year with generally favorable reviews. Producers on the album were vast and eclectic, ranging from Lapalux to Ryan Hemsworth and Portugal. The Man. The Underachievers’ second album Evermore: The Art of Duality was released in 2015 through RPM MSC Distribution. During this time the duo also worked on other projects such as the group Clockwork Indigo, releasing an EP with them in 2016. They also released the EP It Happened In Flatbush the same year. Their latest and third album came out in spring through record label RPM MSC. While consistently putting out experimental, psychedelic and seductive hip hop, the duo has continued to tour with artists like Joey Badass, Pro Era and Ab-Soul, as well as copping a feature on a Talib Kweli track and recently working with House DJ Barcalay Crenshaw on the track “Artifacts”.
