Touché Amore, everyone’s favorite Los Angelean post-hardcore band, will head out on their fall tour in just a couple of days. Starting on September fifteenth, the band will head north to the land of moose and syrup: Canada—Vancouver, to be exact. From there they will travel to Phoenix and embark on a tour in which they hit most major cities in most major states. If they’re in Georgia, find them in Atlanta; in Illinois, find them in Chicago. A pretty standard United States (and Canadian) tour if there ever was one. Touché Amore’s final date will be in Los Angeles, the city where the group first formed in 2007, at Teragram on October eighteenth.
Fans of Touché Amore will fondly remember their four studio albums, eleven EPs, and handful of engaging music videos. Some might even recall their 2015 cover of Nirvana’s “Lounge Act,” and remember that it was pretty good. Touché Amore try to accomplish in their music something that Kurt Cobain had mastered: fusing emotional anger with an uncompromising empathetic approach.
The title for Touché Amore’s fourth studio album, Stage Four, is double entendre denoting both the album’s chronology within the band’s discography as well as the final stage of cancer. Jeremy Bohm, vocalist, lost his mother to cancer in 2014. The album feels very raw because of its inherent connection to such a major event in Bohm’s life, and is one of their best works. The band released a song alongside the record of Bohm’s, “Palm Dreams.” The song is about how Bohm will never truly understand why his mother moved to Los Angeles in the 1970s. He chalks it up to her being a wide-eyed small town girl who fell in love with the big city. One thing is for certain, if she hadn’t moved to L.A., then Bohm and Touché Amore may never have met in the first place.
After releasing an album that was easily top fifty of the year, Touché Amore spent the next several months of 2016 promoting their album by touring and playing at festivals. They last toured in tandem with Thursday and Basement in the spring of this year.
