John Carpenter Announces New Album Anthology: Movie Themes 1974-1998 for October 2017 Release

John Carpenter announced the upcoming release of a collection of thirteen of his movie themes. Newly recorded, Carpenter collaborated with the those he worked with on his Lost Themes studio albums and his ensuing tours. Cody Carpenter, his son, and Daniel Davies, his godson, are those collaborators. The album, Anthology: Movie Themes 1974-1998, is set for release on October 20th via Sacred Bones.

The album will be a comprehensive study of Carpenter’s greatest work, ranging from his first works to his work in 1998. Dark Star, the first movie Carpenter worked on, a zero-budget sci-fi piece, will open the album, with a conclusion in 1998’s Vampires. Carpenter also cover Ennio Morricone’s theme song for The Thing.

“I asked Morricone to please compose something with a very few notes,” Carpenter says. “And brilliantly, he did.”

In tandem with the announced, Carpenter shared the theme from “In The Mouth Of Madness,” released in 1994.

“I worked on the soundtrack for In the Mouth of Madness with Jim Lang. We never came up with a great main title theme. In a rented house on Woodrow Wilson (my house was being remodeled), I came up with a heavy metal theme inspired by Metallica’s “Enter Sandman.” My friend Dave Davies played lead guitar, and now, over 20 years later, his son Daniel is playing the lead. One of my favorite themes.”

Carpenter is an undeniable watermark on American music and culture. He is one of the greatest filmmakers of the 20th century, even in the entire history of modern cinema. All while being one of the century’s most inspiring musicians.

Carpenter plans to hit the road after his new album drops in October. He plans to play tracks from the new release as well as material from his last two albums, Lost Themes. Tickets will be available this Friday at 10:00 a.m. local time. VIP packages are available as well, offering fans the option to meet Carpenter and receive merchandise that might otherwise not be available to the public.

Conrad Brittenham: My name is Conrad. I am one year out of college and pursuing a career in writing and journalism. I studied literature at Bard College, in the Hudson Valley. My thesis focuses on the literal and figurative uses of disease in Herman Melville’s most famous works, including Moby-Dick, Benito Cereno, and Billy Budd. My literary research on the topic of disease carried over to more historical findings about how humans tend to deal with and think about the problem of virus and infectivity. I’ve worked at a newspaper and an ad agency, as well as for the past year at an after school program, called The Brooklyn Robot Foundry. All of these positions have influenced the way I approach my work, my writing, and the way I interact with others in a professional setting. I’ve lived in London and New York, and have always had a unique perspective on international cultural matters. I am an avid drawer and a guitarist, but I would like to eventually work for a major news publication as an investigative journalist.
