The Black Angels emerged from Austin, Texas in 2004. The Velvet Underground has had a big influence on the band in several ways. First off, the band created their name from Velvet Underground’s song “The Black Angel’s Death Song.” Older bands such as Pink Floyd, Joy Division, Bob Dylan, The Beatles, The Doors and several others have also been a big influence on the group. The band’s overall sound has little hints of all the bands that have influenced them, they really have that “vintage rock” sound.
The Black Angels have released five studio albums and a few EPs and singles. Death Song is The Black Angels’ latest record that was out on April 21 via Partisan Records. Over the years, The Black Angels have performed at significant festivals like Lollapalooza, South by Southwest and All Tomorrow’s Parties. The band of course made appearances with other popular psychedelic bands at Austin’s very own annual psych fest, now known as Levitation. This year the group will be performing in their hometown at Austin City Limits Festival during both weekends on Saturday.
