Death Grips is teaming up with Ministry and they’ll be at the Hollywood Palladium Nov. 4. The two groups will play shows across the nation beginning this October, but there’s only one night in Los Angeles. Ministry will be touring in support of their forthcoming album, AmeriKKKant, which is due out later this year, according to Consequence Of Sound article. Death Grips also recently released a new 22-minute song called “Steroids (Crouching Tiger Hidden Gabber Megamix),” and said they were working on their next upcoming album, according to Pitchfork. Their most recent LP, Bottomless Pit, was leaked in spring 2016.
Death Grips is an experimental, electronic, noise and hip hop group hailing from Sacramento, California. Formed in 2010, the trio is rapper/vocalist MC Ride (Stefan Burnett), drummer/producer/songwriter Zach Hill, and recording engineer Andy Morin. The trio also have other side projects that they do together. Their first mixtape, Exmilitary (2011), held favorable reviews by listeners and so did the next subsequent album, The Money Store (2012). The band famously leaked their second album, No Love Deep Web (2013) online after some kind of mishap with their label at the time, Epic Records. Because of the leak Epic actually dropped them from the label. After all of this, Death Grips released their third album Government Plates (2013), which received mixed reviews. The following year, the band disbanded after putting together a fourth album, The Powers That B (2014). And then in 2015 they pretty much said never mind and they’re back to making music, which leads to this particular moment in time. Almost two albums later.
Industrial metal pioneers Ministry, who had been on hiatus from 2008 to 2011– has released two albums since then, Relaspe (2012) and From Beer To Eternity (2013) and have a third coming up. Before the hiatus, they’d been around since 1981, when sole member Al Jourgensen formed the band. Ministry had some mainstream success in the 90s when they performed at Lollapalooza and put out their fifth album, Psalm 69: The Way to Succeed and the Way to Suck Eggs (1992). The album peaked at number 27 on the Billboard Hot 200 and went Platinum in 1995 with over a million copies sold. Overall, the band has put together 14 studio albums; they have also went on tour 15 other times before launching into the Death Grips tour. In early 2017 Ministry began working on AmeriKKKant. The album is supposed to be released digitally in the fall with a vinyl release to follow after later, in January 2018. It’s set to include guest appearances from Burton C. Bell of Fear Factory, former N.W.A member Arabian Prince, DJ Swamp and Lord of the Cello, according to the PRP. Ministry also recently debuted their first song in four years, “Antifa”, which is expected to appear on AmeriKKKant, the PRP reported.
