Dan Auerbach, eight-time Grammy-winning singer songwriter and frontman of The Black Keys revealed yesterday his brand new music video for his catchy single “Stand By My Girl” via Stereogum.

The four minute video is directed by Allister Ann and tells the story of a femme fatale and the men who love her. Ellia Sophia and J.D. Wilkes play as husband and wife who seem to be leading a normal life in a picturesque home. That is, until a newspaper article gives the husband cause to believe that there may be something off with his wife. Afterwards, every action done by the wife is suspicious. Gorgeous shots fill the screen including close ups of cut strawberries, hedge clippers, rat poison, and a hairless cat.

In a press statement, Ann shared some insight on the process; “Sometimes you just get lucky. A song, an artist and a vision come together and seem to align perfectly, and when that happens, it’s pure magic,” Ann says. “Dan said this was mine to run with, and receiving that trust and confidence from someone I have respected and admired for years was exciting. Dan’s lyrics told the story, and I was challenged to do my very best to bring them visually to life.”

“Stand By My Girl” is a track off Auerbach’s latest solo album, Waiting On A Song which he released earlier this summer via Easy Eye Sound. According to NPR, it is “a batch of sparkling pop songs that’s sweet, breezy, and primed for summer.” The new album is a follow up to Auerbach’s 2009 hit Keep It Hid, his love letter to Nashville. To add some love to his new venture, Auerbach recruited some of Nashville’s favorite players including John Prine, Duane Eddy, Jerry Douglas, Russ Pahl, Pat McLaughlin as well as Bobby Wood and Gene Chrisman of the Memphis Boys.

These artists are considered musical heroes to Auerbach who had this to say about working with them: “Living in Nashville has definitely changed the way I think about music and the way that I record it. I didn’t have all of these resources before. I am working with some of the greatest musicians that ever lived.”
