Zola Jesus Releases Impassioned New Song “Siphon”

As reported by Stereogum, Zola Jesus has released another new track from her upcoming release, Okovi, the anthemic and powerful “Siphon.” In stark contrast to the two brooding tracks that have already been released, “Exhumed” and “Soak,” “Siphon” contains a set of emotional and personal lyrics that fit in perfectly with the song’s triggered drums, icy synths, and distorted guitar.

Beginning with a series of restrained vocals, the song eventually picks up steam, building into an epic chorus that features a massive wall of layered vocals and electronic effects drenched in reverb. The lyrics reflect a moment in which a close friend of Jesus attempted suicide for the second time, and in the wake of that tragedy, Jesus wrote this song to convince her friend to stay alive. Okovi will be released on September 8th on Sacred Bones.
