Spoon is an indie rock band that formed right here in Austin, Texas. Frontman Britt Daniel and drummer Jim Eno formed the band back in 1993. Daniel and Eno were a part of the band The Alien Beats, which led to forming Spoon soon after. The group is currently a quartet consisting of Daniel, Eno, Rob Pope and Alex Fischel.
Daniel was in several bands before forming Spoon while he attended the University of Texas. Being the co-founder of Spoon, Daniel also co-founded The Divine Fits. The Divine Fits is an indie rock four-piece that formed in 2012 with Daniel and Fischel and members from the bands Wolf Parade and New Bomb Turks.
Spoon’s first release was an EP in the year of 1994. Telephono was the band’s first album that was out in 1996. They have released nine albums overall. Hot Thoughts is Spoon’s latest record that was released on March 17th of this year. Throughout the years, the band’s music has been featured on several commercials and TV shows. Some of Spoon’s songs make references to their hometown, Austin. Hits like “Hot Thoughts,” “I Turn My Camera On,” “Do You” and “Inside Out” are some fan favorites, especially for Austinites.
The quartet will be performing at both weekends of Austin City Limits Music Festival and at Stubb’s for an ACL Fest Late Night Show.
