Prolific Australian psych-rockers King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard just announced the release of yet another new album, but they aren’t done with big announcements. Today according to Tone Deaf, they announced the lineup for their annual Gizzfest in the guitar-rock hotbed of Melbourne, Australia.
Focusing largely on guitar-based indie rock bands in subgenres like psych, surf, garage and punk rock, the lineup is headed up by groups like Los Angeles (formerly Seattle) based La Luz, Kikagaku Moyo from Japan and Australia’s own The Murlocs (who will be returning after playing the festival in the past). It will all go down on December 2, 2017 at the Melbourne Showgrounds.
The rest of the lineup consists of bands from Australia and beyond, most relatively up-and-coming with smaller followings. Past Gizzfest lineups have included groups like Pond (a Tame Impala offshoot), White Fence and The Babe Rainbow.
The new album that King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard announced, Club Sketches of Brunswick East, is a collaborative album with American band Mild High Club. Naturally, that band will be present at the Melbourne festival, returning after playing last year.
UPDATE (9/8): Gizzfest has announced the lineup for its Adelaide iteration. It features essentially the same lineup as the main Melbourne-based festival, with headliners Kikagaku Moyo, La Luz and The Murlocs.
