Avenge Sevenfold, who played with Metallica at The Rose Bowl nearly month ago, has released a cover of “God Only Knows” by Beach Boys’. This will be the fifth track that has been released that will be a part of the band’s upcoming album The Stage.
The song begins with a melodic tune with its soft guitars and light drumming. As the song progresses, the guitar and drum beats become a little heavier. With this tune, the vocals begin soft but escalates within minutes. The song can be listened to below.
The band’s vocalist, has explained that this song was the most difficult to arrange out of all the songs that have been recorded. According to the press release, he says “Figuring out the middle vocal melodies was also challenging. We wanted to make the song a little darker by adding a flanger and some haunting vocal nuances. The Beach Boys have always been an influence, so it was fun to tackle this one from arguably the best album of all time, ‘Pet Sounds.’”
