Pop indies from above the border, Stars, just confirmed an October 13 release for their upcoming LP, There is No Love in Flourescent Light. The announcement comes after two tracks were released by the group last month and little else. The new album was recorded between Montreal and Connecticut with the help of Peter Katis (The National, Japandroids). When discussing the new LP, Katis describes the recording process in pretty glowing terms. “This record seemed to have an undeniable momentum from the start,” he says. “Even my being turned away by Canadian border police for the second round of tracking couldn’t slow us down.”
If Katis’ excitement isn’t enough for you, Stars also released a new single entitled “Real Thing,” to go along with the new album announcement. The new track gives fans exactly what they want and expect from Stars. Torquil Campbell’s vocals are a smoky and emphatic as they glide over airy and glistening synths. After listening you will want to give your other (or your ex) a call.
The band also spoke to NPR about the upcoming project and song. “Does no one fall in love under fluorescent light? Pretty sure that’s not true, as many an office romance could attest,” they told NPR. “But as a statement in support of love’s delusions, we will stand by it. In love, the lights are different, softer; the air has more oxygen in it; and for a second, all you need is a chorus to believe this might be the one.”
They also threw out a little praise to their producer. “It’s a Stars song, but with Peter Katis producing it. So it’s spaghetti with tomato sauce, but Maro Batali cooked it. So eat it.”
